“DLD: a disorder
invisible where the brain
has an impact beyond
of language.

The need to provide services to the population living with DLD is not new. Many parents concerned by these issues wanted to be able to offer support to the community, but were not ready to build an association from scratch at that time.

In 2017, the Association du disorder primaire du langage de l'Est (ATPL de l'Est), based in Rivière-du-Loup, generously agreed to open a service point in La Côte-de-Gaspé following the steps taken by a committee of parents from Gaspé.

Six years later, this same parents' committee met again with the aim this time of founding an independent organization for developmental language disorder (DLD) in La Côte-de-Gaspé.

The reasons that motivated the committee to create their own entity are twofold:

1. We have learned and grown thanks to this valuable sponsorship from the ATPL East. We are now ready to fly on our own, to continue all the work that has been done by the ATPL by adding our colors and our autonomy.

2. It was becoming increasingly difficult for ATPL to manage a remote service point.

The founding general meeting was held in November 2023. During this meeting, the members of the board of directors were elected, the general regulations of the organization were adopted and the members present were able to express themselves about their needs for the start-up of the organization.
